This Week in Chabad History

Here's my story | December 10, 2025

This week in....

25 Teves
5715-1955, after learning that chasidim in Israel were raffling off a ticket to visit the Rebbe in New York, the Rebbe wrote to Rabbi Refael Nachman Kahan, one of the organizers of the project. He explained that since the winner will be representing everyone who had purchased a ticket, all participants in the drawing should make spiritual preparations for the trip, as if each of them would be traveling to New York to pray at the resting place of the Previous Rebbe.

23 Teves
5743-1983, during a farbrengen, the Rebbe expressed his frustration with how long it was taking for construction on the new Crown Heights mikveh to be completed. Since the old mikveh was not in use, he explained, the matter was urgent. The Rebbe mentioned that the two fires that had recently taken place in 770 should have been enough to motivate community leaders to finally finish the project, although, as the Rebbe concluded, the mikveh should be built with love and joy.
