Parshas Shelach is a Parsha That's Especially Important for All of Us

Bitachon Weekly | June 27, 2025

THERE ARE LOADS OF LESSONS FOR US!

  1. We need to be more and more like Kalev and Yehoshua, and less and less like the Meraglim.
  2. Remember that the Meraglim started off as Tzaddikim, but the scary situation in Canaan ruined their lives, Rachmana Litzlan! Daven! וְאַל תְּבִיאֵׁנִיְְּּלִידֵׁי נִסָּיוֹן Don’t leave me in a spiritually dangerous situation.
  3. #1 message: Don't be afraid of people; even the most scary giants.
  4. How? By remembering your own past Nissim, which we all tend to forget; they are always going "over our heads" unless we write them down and are constantly remembering them and talking about them!
  5. Believe it or not, Yetzias Mitzrayim is also important for us to constantly remember, and believe with whole heart that we can actually get the same Nissim! R' Chatzkel Levenstein Zatzal was given credit for saving the Mirrer Yeshiva with fascinating Nissim, all because he was constantly trying to take the story of Yetzias Mitzrayim seriously.
  6. Not to be satisfied and to complain is a real sin with dire consequences, Rachmana Litzlan, and may very well be the true reason for so many pecklach that we have.
  7. The holy Alshich says that Kalev and Yehoshua tore their clothes like people who just heard the worst K'fira of a person who “blesses” Hashem, Rachmana Litzlan, where there is a Chiyuv K’riya (to rip).
  8. Complaining promotes more and more issues, Rachmana Litzlan, like the Gemara says that their crying caused more and more Tzaros (Churban Bayis Rishon and Sheini, etc.).
  9. There is no question that those who don't complain are Zoche to unlimited goodness, and מִּדָה טוֹבָה מְרוּבָה Hashem’s measurement of goodness is 500 times greater than His measurement of punishment, so those who don’t complain will receive 500 times more goodness than the complainers get evil.
  10. The very best non-complainers are those who by nature would complain, but they davened to Hashem and were Zoche to overcome their kvetchy nature.
  11. The holy Alshich and the Ohr HaChaim both say that this is why Kalev was singled out more than Yehoshua, since he had a Yetzer Hara that he overcame.
  12. In general, we can suggest that Kalev was a real Gam Zu L'tovah type, who wasn't Nis'pael from difficulties since he married Miriam, who nobody wanted to marry since she had leprosy, so Kalev married her and cured her. (Gemara)!
  13. Kalev was from Shevet Yehuda and a Malchus family. A Melech is an example for the Klal, and the best examples are those with big Yetzer Hara’s who overcame their weakness. Notice how Dovid was an: א ד מוֹנִיְְּּ ש"אְּטזְּיב flaming red head like Eisav, and here we have Kalev overcoming his evil nature by davening.
  14. There is no doubt that if you are kvetchy by nature, and you work on it and you don't really succeed, then you are super Chashuv because of your pain. ה ע ק ש ןְּי צ לִיח ְּ The stubborn will be Matzliach!
  15. The holy Alshich says that overcoming a Nisayon is much greater than just doing a Mitzva; this is the Gadlus of Kalev, and your Gadlus, when you notice that you have Nisyonos and you try to work on them.
  16. Yehoshua became a Melech, and Kalev was the forefather of Malchus Yehuda. Notice how true Malchus means being positive and satisfied and seeing good. Those who are negative and critical are the opposite of Malchus. They are low Avadim. How important it is to see yourself as a Chashuva person like a Melech; it will be easier for you to be positive.
  17. As much as you try to be more positive and having Ayin Tova, it may still be very hard to get rid of your negative nature. One of the most positive characteristics is accepting the fact that you are somewhat negative despite your Avoda.
