Straightening a bent blade of a knife on Shabbos
(The “Hints & Answers” section is on page 4)
“It’s time to wash and make hamotzi on our fresh, home-made challah that Imma baked,” said Abba with much joy after the Friday night kiddush.
“I wait the whole week for Imma’s fresh challah,” said Sruli. His family almost never missed a week of fresh baked challah.
“I’ll go get the challah knife,” said Rachel.
As she was walking to the kitchen, she thought to herself, “Wait, I remember that I used that knife to clean something off the floor this week, and I bent the knife! What are we going to use now?”
So she asked her oldest brother Shaul about that.
“Don’t worry,” said Shaul, “I remember learning in Menucha a few weeks ago that one can return to its proper place a bent part of a hat on Shabbos. If so, straightening a knife on Shabbos is also okay.”
Question: Can the knife be straightened now?
