Mitzvos in Parshas Shoftim

41 Mitzvos in the Parsha (Number 491-530 of 613 Mitzvos in the Torah)
14 Positive Mitzvos and 27 Prohibitions

  1. To appoint judges and officers in every Jewish community.
  2. Not to plant a tree by the Mizbeach.
  3. Not to erect an idolatrous pillar.
  4. Not to offer a blemished animal, even if it is a temporary blemish.
  5. To listen to the Sanhedrin in every generation.
  6. Not to disobey the word of the Sanhedrin.
  7. To appoint a Jewish king.
  8. Not to appoint a non-native Jew to be the king.
  9. A king should not amass horses beyond his needs.
  10. Not to live in the land of Egypt.
  11. A king should not have too many wives.
  12. A king should not amass excessive gold and silver.
  13. A king should write a Torah scroll, in addition to the one which every Jews is required to write.
  14. The Leviim should not inherit land in the Eretz Yisrael.
  15. The Leviim should not share of the booty during the conquest of Eretz Yisrael.
  16. To give the shoulder, jaw and end-stomach of a korban to the Kohenim.
  17. To separate Terumah from produce.
  18. To give the first shearing of the fleece to the Kohanim.
  19. Kohanim should work at the Bais haMikdash in watches, and during the holidays they should work in unison.
  20. Not to practice divination.
  21. Not to practice sorcery.
  22. Not to use charms.
  23. Not to consult a medium.
  24. Not to consult a yidoni.
  25. Not seek consult with the dead.
  26. To listen to every Navi in the generation.
  27. Not to issue false prophecy.
  28. Not to issue prophecy in the name of an idol.
  29. Not to refrain from putting a false prophet to death, and not to be afraid of him.
  30. To prepare six cities of refuge.
  31. Not to have mercy on a person who inflicts mortal injury, in a capital trial.
  32. Not to falsely adjust one’s boundary.
  33. Not to pass judgment on the word of just one witness.
  34. To do a false, scheming witness as they intended to do to their victim through their testimony.
  35. Not to be afraid of an enemy in battle.
  36. To anoint a Kohen for war.
  37. To at in an optional war according to the rules of the Torah.
  38. Not to allow any of the seven nations that inhabited Eretz Yisrael to live.
  39. Not to destroy fruit-bearing trees during a siege, nor cause purposeless destruction.
  40. To break the neck of the calf in a riverbed.
  41. Not to plow or sow in the riverbed where the calf’s neck was broken.
