I am a young man in yeshiva, and I needed some shekels. A friend suggested to me that I work a few hours and earn some money so I could turn this corner. He was referring to a place where I had worked bein hazmanim, so I knew the place and the people, and I knew they were Heaven fearing. Since it was now in the middle of the zman, I approached the Rosh Yeshiva and told him that I wanted to go one day to work to make some shekels...
The Rosh Yeshiva heard my words and told me, “Whoever accepts upon himself the yoke of Torah, the yoke of worldly responsibility is removed from him! (Avos 3:5) This is the advice of the yetzer to take you out of the yeshiva! I do not give you permission, HaKadosh Baruch Hu will help you from another place!!!”
I slightly regretted that I asked for permission, but since I had already asked the Rosh Yeshiva, I could not go against his word, and so, I stayed in the yeshiva to learn all day.
The next motzaei Shabbos I was standing at a bus stop, a car stopped by me and offered to take me to my destination. I saw that it was someone Heaven fearing, and I got in the car. On the way, we spoke, and at the end of the ride as I was getting out of the car, he put something in my hand and drove away.
I was stunned, he had given me 300 shekels, the exact sum that I would have earned had I worked that day.
It is important to note that I had not spoken with this man a word about work or money, rather, HaKadosh Baruch Hu paid attention to give me. Apparently, he himself did not know what came over him to give a young man this sum, except for the words of the Rosh Yeshiva: “Whoever accepts upon himself the yoke of Torah, the yoke of worldly responsibility is removed from him!”
