Shabbos Chol Hamoed Sukkos 5673 – שם משמואל
Why do we not say "Sholom Aleichem" on Leil Shabbos Kodesh which falls on Sukkos? (Some have the Minhag to say Sholom Aleichem all should follow their Minhag). What is the concept of our saying Sholom Aleichem when we come home on Leil Shabbos, and then why do we say "צאתכם לשלום" shortly after - saying hello to the Malachim, and then shortly after saying goodbye to them? On Shabbos Kodesh, we are Zoche to receive a Neshama Yeseira, an extra Neshama. That Neshama comes from High Above, and in order for it to come down to this world into a human being, there needs to be some intermediary, for the Kedusha is so great from Above. That is where the Malachim come in, as they deliver the Neshama Yeseira to the world down here, to the Malachim down here, so that we can obtain the Neshama Yeseira. We welcome the Malachim who bring the Neshama Yeseira, and then we say goodbye to them, for they were only messengers bringing the Neshama Yeseira - without any reason to stay after that. When Klal Yisroel sit in the Sukkah, they are sitting in the shade of Hakodosh Boruch Hu.
The Gematria of סוכה is the same as the Shem Havayah and the Shem Adnus (י-ה-ו-ה, א-ד-נ-י) as these Names of Hakodosh Boruch Hu connect the upper worlds with the lower worlds, The Shechinah is in the Sukkah, and thus there is great Kedusha. Therefore, there is no need for the Malachim to be intermediaries, rather we can receive the Neshama Yeseira without the Malachim. Thus, there is no need to welcome the Malachim, as they are not coming on the Yom Tov of Sukkos. Hakodosh Boruch Hu, and the אושפיזין, the special guests (Avrohom, Yitzchok, Yaakov, Moshe, Aharon, Yosef, Dovid) are all in the Sukkah, and thus there is no need for Malachim. Along similar lines, we don't receive Sholom Aleichem because the Malachim fear entering the Sukkah, as the Shechinah and the אושפיזין are there. The Gemara in Sanhedrin 39a says that when there are ten Yidin together the Shechinah rests there - as it does in the Sukkah. The אושפיזין are greater than Malachim, and thus the Malachim fear entering the Sukkah. We therefore do not say Sholom Aleichem - for the Malachim do not come.
