Dancing on Yomtov is Loftier Than Tefillah:
There is an important mitzvah to be happy on yomtov. The Karliner Rebbe zy”a states (Bais Aharon, Parshas Emor) that dancing joyfully on yomtov is an even higher madreiga than anything one can reach through tefillah. This is because when one davens, he is only speaking with his mouth, but when one dances with joy, he uplifts his entire body.
A Happy Year:
The Abarbenel (Devarim 16:15) writes that the Torah’s words “v’hayisa ach somayeich” are a guarantee that if one is joyful on Sukkos, he will be happy all year.
A Guarantee for a Good Year:
The Peleh Yoetz writes that if one is happy on Sukkos it is a good sign for the entire year. He quotes the Arizal that if one is happy the entire Sukkos, he is guaranteed to have a good year that is filled with joy.
