One of the boys, who studies in a large and famous yeshiva in the United States, was the most prominent in his success. He sat and studied with great perseverance and great enthusiasm, with all his friends and rabbis constantly praising him for his special qualities, for illuminating his face for every person, and for guarding his mouth and tongue from all guards, all out of humility and escape from honor. But unfortunately, a number of guys from his yeshiva class were very jealous of him and it hurt them that he was a good and successful guy, so they decided to give him a bad name, and show everyone that he is not as good as everyone thinks. They began to tell every guy in the yeshiva about a bad deed that the guy had done, and that he was pretending to be a good guy, but he was a big crook.
"I and all the rabbis of the yeshiva," says the community's rabbi, "knew that this was a false libel, which never existed and was not created. That young man would hear the words against him, remain silent and continue to study with great joy. The issue was raging, and the rabbis had no choice but to call the young man's parents and tell them that they had to take the young man out of the yeshiva for a while, until the fire in the yeshiva died down. The parents were outraged by the decision, because they knew that their son had never hurt anyone. The management called the guy and asked him if he had done the same thing."I will say only one sentence," he said with a bow of his head, "I have never done that, and now I will be silent and will not speak."Why are you silent?", his parents turned to him, "Tell the rabbis that these are inventions and that is how you will stay in the yeshiva."But the young man answered with tears: "Father, Mother, you know that this is one big invention. But I take it upon myself to remain silent and not to prove myself right, because if I do so, I know that it will cause a great controversy in the yeshiva, and therefore I take it upon myself to remain silent, and I trust in God that He will not leave me."
The young man was removed from the yeshiva out of acceptance of God's will with love. It was a silence out of immense closeness to a human being. A righteous and persistent young man is accused of being a bad guy, but he is smiling and happy, when he is only interested in continuing to study and no matter where. After a few weeks he returned to the yeshiva. The young men looked at him in a negative way, but he did not pay attention and only sat down to study with twice the energy and joy that he had been until today. And here came the time of matchmaking. The young man was looking for a bride of virtue, but unfortunately every family that heard about the plot quickly dropped the offer and moved on. Months and even years passed, when the situation was stuck. The young man was not excited at all, but continued to study happily and brightly.
And behold, one day, a great Torah scholar, known in the United States as a very wealthy man, came in and asked the Rosh Yeshiva for a groom who was immersed in his study and was adorned with good qualities for his righteous and wise daughter. The Rosh Yeshiva did not think twice and proposed the successful young man. He knew that everything they said about him was a gross lie. The Talmud was very impressed by the young man, but very quickly he also heard about the young man's plot. "Please tell me honestly," he turned to the young man, "did you do the deed?"The young man looked him in the eye and said: "I am free from all evil, but I will not go into more detail, so as not to cause a fire in the yeshiva. I trust in God that when my marriage comes, she will believe me without going into the details of this matter."The Talmud admired the young man, and a few days later the young man became engaged to his daughter. The wedding took place in the month of Tishrei 5777, when he was 23 years old. All the members of his class who told him the terrible story remained in the yeshiva and for several years did not find their match. This is not a small number of guys, but an unusual phenomenon – dozens of guys are 'stuck' in matchmaking... Although four young men from the class had married a few years earlier, they did not participate in the defamation. All the members of the class understood that they were stuck because of the great sorrow they had caused to the young man. Dozens of young men went up to his house on his wedding day, and cried to him that he would forgive them so that they would not be stuck single all their lives. The groom told them wholeheartedly that he was forgiving everyone, and then they shook the hands of each young man, and they all began a stormy dance full of tears in the young man's room, and finally asked forgiveness from the young man's parents, who had also suffered a lot.
Indeed, from Tishrei 5777 to 28 Kislev 5778, 11 young men from the same class got engaged, with many of them before the stage of closing the engagement. "Listen to me," the rabbi concludes, "there is a judge and there is a judge. God does not abandon the persecuted and punishes the persecutor!"
