For this reason, at that time, the redemption was in Nissan.
However, the Future Redemption will come after the Divine service of created beings carried out since the Giving of the Torah, i.e., after the thousands of years of our people’s service in the observance of the Torah and its mitzvos. These collective efforts refine the world and make it a fit conduit for G-dliness.
This is what the Giving of the Torah brought about – that even the loftiest spiritual levels need to be drawn down and internalized within the world. Indeed, although the revelation of G-dliness that will accompany Mashiach’s coming will transcend the world, even those spiritual peaks must be internalized for G-d’s dwelling to be complete. This is made possible through man’s Divine service. Because Tishrei emphasizes man’s Divine service that makes it possible for spiritual revelations to be internalized, Rabbi Eliezer maintains that the redemption will occur in Tishrei.
However, Rabbi Yehoshua maintains – and the halachah also follows his view – that the Future Redemption will come from Above. Nevertheless, since the revelation will stem from G-d’s Essence, it will be internalized. Thus, as alluded to by the verse, “And of Zion it shall be said, ‘This man and that man was born in her.’ ” Although “the man emitted seed first” (the arousal for the redemption will come from Above), nevertheless, “she will give birth to a male” – the redemption will be enduring and internalized.
