5712–1952, upon learning that the Jewish community in Bogotá, Colombia, was building a new mikveh, the Rebbe sent a donation and a letter of encouragement to the committee members. In the letter, the Rebbe described family purity as a central pillar of Judaism, impacting the entire Jewish nation, including future generations. “Through purity, the Divine Presence rests upon Israel,” he wrote, adding that by fulfilling this mitzvah, the Jewish people gain the strength to endure the oppressive exile, while maintaining good health in body and soul. In conclusion, the Rebbe urged the community to spare no effort in constructing a beautiful mikveh, and to complete it as soon as possible.
