This is a very serious question... whether a person is allowed to engage in idle chatter. It says in the Torah בם ודברת, one should speak words of Torah, and Chazal tell us that this prohibits us from engaging in idle chatter. When a person engages in excessive chatter, the peshat is that his neshamah is pining and yearning for something new, and it can’t be quieted. It continues to yearn, and until it receives the real thing, it will keep returning to frivolities. Boredom is a terrible pain.
We must reiterate this over and over. Everyone was created with the ability to grow in Torah, and this ability is locked inside the person. The nature of a chiddush is that it’s locked away, and we must bring it to the fore. It doesn’t come from the outside; it comes from within.
The Ribbono shel Olam gave us the tzaddikim who unlock our neshamos and reveal their innate light. They give us pathways in avodas Hashem, and eitzos with which to better serve Hashem. When a Yid learns in the sefer Pri HaAretz (authored by Rebbe Mendele) with submissiveness and bittul, he will merit great revelations and inspirations from within his neshamah.
