Inside the Kodesh HaKodoshim were the K'ruvim with outstretched wings. Wings symbolize flying upwards and striving for greatness. Some say they symbolize Malachim, and coming close to the Ruchaniyus world of Shamayim and Hashem. The wings are described in the Passuk as: סוֹכֲכ ים i.e., a protection (like Schach). Why do they have to be a protection, and over whom do they protect? We can suggest this is a Remez, that all those who strive for greatness in Torah, should know that ultimately they are expected to be a protection for Klal Yisroel, and a help for all those who are underneath them.
