I like to use disposable dishes, and they are popular among many Jewish families. Besides for saving time and effort washing dishes, they are like a clean slate, with no history or “baggage”. They are neither meat nor dairy, simplifying the Kosher kitchen, and they are totally clean and fresh. Disposable dishes are great for a minimalist lifestyle; they are easy to throw out so you don’t accumulate stuff. The Ba’al Shem Tov says that we should learn a lesson from everything. Recently I was thinking about how disposable dishes are similar to how G-d constantly recreates the world. As we learn in Chassidus, G-d creates the world out of nothing at every moment. What an amazing opportunity we have! It’s like G-d is “throwing out” all the baggage that weighs us down in life and giving us a chance to reset and start over. Our past does not define us. Even if we have made mistakes, we can always start anew. Every moment we get a whole new life, a whole new world, clean and ready for us to make the most of it!
