How Important It Is to Value the Kavod and Respect of a Person

Bitachon Weekly | December 10, 2025

The Gemara says that clothes in general are the Kavod and respect of a person. A person’s Tz'niyus, individuality, privacy, uniqueness, and his cozy warmth and protection from cold and shame, are in his clothes. And in the Bais Hamikdash, the Cohanim wore special holy: בְּגָדִ ים clothing. The: אַבְּנֵט Gartel was super long, perhaps to symbolize that a person should make a big partition between his Gashmiyus (lower parts) and Ruchaniyus (higher parts).

And the very high hats (מִגְּבָעוֹת) can symbolize how important it is to value your Sechel, which is the key to overcoming the Yetzer Hara. (Chazal). A greater Cohen (Cohen Gadol) wears greater and fancier clothing (and more clothing, i.e., (שְְּׁמוֹנְָׁהְׁבְְּׁגְָׁדְִׁים. (Mishna). The: בְּגָדִ ים clothing are extremely important, and without them, you aren’t a Cohen! (Gemara).

The Torah is giving us an extremely important message: Respect your clothes! They respect you! And they give you dignity! Hashem is the: מֶלֶךְְְׁׁהַכָבוֹדְְׁׁתהליםְׁכדְׁז Melech HaKavod, and He wants the Tzelem Elokim to be like Him and to respect himself. No Zil'zul for a: חֵלֶקְׁאֱלוֹקְַׁמִמַעַל piece of Hashem Mamash! Respect! This is what the Mishkan is all about! And with Geshmak! לְּכָבוֹדְְׁׁוּלְּתִפְּאָרֶת for beauty and glory.
