One Who Makes Himself Secondary is Worthy of Being a Leader
Sefer Chochmah M’Ayin (page 24) relates that Rav Eliezer of Dzikov zy”a was saying divrei Torah one week on leil Shabbos and he asked why this Parshah begins with the letter “vav”. Since it is not a continuation of anything, why does it start with “vav” (and...)?
He answered that Hashem was hinting that Moshe Rabenu considered himself to be secondary in relation to the rest of Klal Yisroel. He treated himself like an “and” – an additional, secondary thing. Therefore, he is “Tetzaveh”, meaning that he is worthy of having a position of “tzavsa”, leadership, and serving as the head of the nation.
That night, Rav Eliezer ‘s father, the Ropshitzer Rebbe zy”a, appeared to him in a dream and said, “Lezer, my son, you said the true explanation of the pasuk.”
