Questions To Rabbi Mandel
Rising Cost of Living
Question: Dear R' Mandel, Interested to know your thoughts on the attached photo, claiming that a frum family of 4 needs at least $250k in today’s economy. Best Regards
Answer: Don’t go near those articles! This way of thinking is without any Bitachon in your life. Us Jews live only with Bitachon. The whole Kollel system doesn’t make sense. People in Williamsburg have 15 children, and they live until 120. They marry off all their children, and that’s because they have Bitachon, and don’t go with these articles and all this garbage.
The more you go with these articles, the more you invite problems, and then you will need to live by them. Don’t touch that stuff, or else you won’t want to get married; like by the Goyim, they don’t get married. Or they don’t have kids, because they are worried about finances. They have dogs and cats instead. All these “practical” people are the opposite of practical. They don’t realize that it’s real K’fira. Hashem makes things work above Teva on purpose, and all the people that live above Teva come out ahead. R' Sheinberg told me that he ended up with more money than his friends that went to work. Not only did he end up with Gadlus in Torah, but he ended up with more money too. What are all the “practical” people going to say to that?

The biggest issue facing the frum community is being raised by a few CPA’s and that is the cost of living nowadays. Pretty much everyone agrees that to raise a family of 4 plus children today requires an income of at least $250,000. And the answer for your average family of making less than $150,000 per year is not cutting the costs.............
"............ the real issue is how the communities allow prices and funds to be set and allocated. For example, housing has gone up by more than 100% in the past 3 years. But there are hundreds of houses being developed. Should developers make hundreds of millions of dollars off of people struggling to put food on their table? Cheaper housing and developments would bring prices down drastically. Grocery prices have gone up by 50% over the past 3 years. I'd like to know if the grocers are making more profit in their books than the increase.............
