The Power of a Joyous Resolve

Rebbe Responsa | June 27, 2025

By the Grace of G-d
29th of Shevat, 5718
Brooklyn, N. Y.
Dr. ...
New York 34, N. Y.
Blessing and Greeting:

After the long interval, I was pleased to receive your letter of February 12th, although you write about your health and the complications involved, in connection with your need for a special diet, all the more so since you are obliged to eat out a great deal, and you find it difficult to combine Kashruth with the other dietary requirements.

The above notwithstanding, I trust that you will surely be able to arrange to observe the Divinely ordained diet together with the other dietary requirements, especially as New York provides ample possibilities to do so, and the adherence to the dietary laws ordained by G-d, will surely be highly beneficial for your general metabolism, inasmuch as G-d’s reward is in kind, in a generous measure.

Similarly, in connection with vacation, you surely know that there are many Kosher hotels in a variety of resorts, where it is possible to combine Kosher diet with other dietary requirements.

With regard to what you write about your son..., who is considering discontinuing his studies for lack of a grant, you do not mention how much time the studies would still require, and what financial expenses are involved. However, if the question is about a reasonable sum of money, it may be possible to arrange a loan from our office for an extended period, so that he need not interrupt his studies.

As you know, tomorrow is the first day of the new moon of Adar, of which the Rabbis have said that with the arrival of Adar there should be an increased measure of joy, I trust that this will be so in your case, for, as in all matters of the Torah, which we are expected to fulfill, we are also given the ability to do so. Therefore, if you will firmly resolve in your mind to go about your work with joy and confidence, it will surely become part of your real disposition. And, even in matters of health, which seems to cause you some anxiety, you could find a basis for gratitude in that the condition of diabetes had been discovered in good time, so that it can be controlled successfully, as you have already experienced.

With prayerful wishes to hear good news from you in all above, and especially in regard to good arrangement your in personal life, concerning which we talked when you were here, and
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
