If we had not heard the story before you directly from the perpetrators and verified its details, we would have thought that it was concocted in the mind of a talented screenwriter. Our interlocutor is Baruch Borowski, 72, who is now a resident of Modi'in. In the past, he served as an agriculture teacher and managed an agricultural farm in Kiryat Tivon.
He and his wife Chayaare the parents of Eviatar Borowski, who was killed in a terror attack on the 20th of Iyar 5773, five years ago. Evyatar was waiting at the bus stop at the Tapuah junction when a terrorist stabbed him with a knife and threw him into the ditch behind the station. The terrorist even snatched his pistol and fired at him and other people.
Meeting at a restaurant
The Borowski family has a long-standing relationship with the Yaakov family from Kfar Hasidim, where they used to live. The Yaakov family lost their son Avihu in a terror attack in Nablus on the 21st of Iyar 5762, about sixteen years ago. The fall of the sons further strengthened the bond between the families.
A little less than four years ago, it happened. Baruch relates: "Our granddaughter was at our house during the summer vacation, and one evening we went out to eat at the Greg restaurant in Kiryat Ata, under the elegant kashrut of the city's rabbi, Rabbi Chaim Shlomo Diskin. When we entered the restaurant, my wife said she wanted to sit in one place, I suggested a second place, and the granddaughter suggested that we sit near the entrance."
Twin stroller
Baruch continues: "We sat down where the granddaughter asked and started looking at the menu. Two women entered the restaurant. One was carrying a stroller of twins. We had to move a little to make way for the twin carriage, and I blurted out: 'What cute! What are their names?' The mother said that their names were Evyatar and Avihu. We froze in place. After a moment, we asked: Why did you call them by these names? Did she reply that they were looking for the names of the righteous?"
Chaya relates: "We briefly shared with them about our Evyatar and told them about his great righteousness. For his walking on that day to immerse himself in the mikveh, and in general, for his pure walks. We also told them about Avihu, the son of the Yaakov family, who is buried in the cemetery behind our son."
Candle of Life
Then came the big surprise: "We asked them when the twins were born. The mother replied that Evyatar was born on the 20th of Iyar – exactly the anniversary of our son Evyatar, while Avihu was born after sunset, on the 21st of Iyar – the day of the fall of Avihu Yaakov. We were stunned. We did not know how to react in the face of the incomprehensible private providence. And as if all this were not enough, the name of the father of the twins was Oshri – just like the name of our son's friend, whom he had planned to meet on the day of his murder... Since then, we have been in constant contact with the twin family." The mother, Liat Pinto, from Kiryat Ata, adds: "My twins are currently studying in the Chabad kindergarten and are celebrating four years."
Baruch notes that the story has troubled his mind for a long time. "One day, an important rabbi said to me, ' I see that the matter is bothering you. Do what is written: 'Do not inquire when you are covered.' I stopped dealing with it. It seems that the Creator of the world wanted to show us that there is a candle of life in memory of the sons."
