This Week in Chabad History

Here's my story | December 10, 2025

17 Adar

5734-1974, the Rebbe urged Mr. Yosef Ciechanover, legal attaché to Israel’s Ministry of Defense, not to resign from his post. The Rebbe pointed out that in the months after the Yom Kippur War, any instability to Israel’s security apparatus must be avoided at all costs. Thus, considering his stature and tenure, it is necessary that he continue — at least for the rest of the term of the present Defense Minister, Moshe Dayan.

15 Adar

5737-1977, the Rebbe publicly gave his blessings to the new Gerrer Rebbe, Rabbi Simcha Bunim Alter, who had succeeded his late brother, Rabbi Yisroel, that week. After tracing the relationships between the Rebbes of Lubavitch and Ger throughout the generations, and talking about his own personal experiences with the leaders of Ger as a child and a young man, the Rebbe concluded by wishing the new Rebbe that his “leadership should be with true and great success, built on the tradition of his ancestors, established on a love for Torah, Jewish people and G-d.”
