How much time should I invest in each part of Torah

Novardok weekly | December 07, 2025

Question:

How much time should I invest in each part of Torah (halacha, mussar, etc.)?

Answer:

Tzvei dinim (two points): Number one, there is the "daily exercise". When it comes to halacha and mussar in particular, it is highly recommended to have a k'vius (set-time each day) for each one individually, in whatever halacha and whatever mussar sefer that speaks to your neshama, even if it is just for one minute on the clock.

So great, I have "two minutes" squared away—but what should I do with the rest of my Torah-learning time?

Answer: Whatever you want! And stick around the people that respect whatever part of Torah you choose (it may differ over time, and will probably be a combination of different parts)(unless you are already such a "Novardoker" that you want to davka be around those that may not appreciate you as much as they should...). So get yourself a rebbi that speaks to your neshama, and have a blast! (And don't forget to give yourself time to learn the number-one sugya of yourself, through hisbonenus and positive self-introspection.)
