5. Song. According to the plain meaning, it is called “Pesukei d’Zimra” because of the songs in these pesukim.

6. Pruning. Early sefarim explain that “zimra” comes from the word “זמירה ,” meaning to prune or cut away. In other words, saying Pesukei d’Zimra subdues and cuts away the destructive and harmful spiritual forces which prevent tefilla from arising and being accepted with mercy and desire (שערי אורה, לבוש ).
