Kadesh and Kiddush at the Seder

Chabad.org Luach | June 27, 2025

For Kiddush we do Yakneha”z (yayin, kiddush, neir, havdalah, and zman): Begin with Borei Pri Hagafen and the berachah of Asher bachar banu, and then continue with Borei Me’orei Ha’eish and Hamavdil bein kodesh lekodesh. Conclude with Shehecheyanu.

When saying the berachah of Borei Me’orei Ha’eish, look at the Yom Tov candles (do not join the candles together, and do not look at your fingernails as is usually done on motzoei Shabbos).

See below, “Hosafos,” for what to do if you forgot to make havdalah during Kiddush.

Women who have already said Shehecheyanu when lighting the Yom Tov candles should not say this berachah in their Kiddush.

Drink the first cup, leaning to your left. It is preferable to drink the entire cup without interruption.

For more on drinking the arba kosos and leaning, see below, “Hosafos.”
