The Rebbe was sixth-generation descendant of both the Ba'al Shem Tov and the Zlotichver Maggid. He traced his lineage to Rashi, Maharal, Rema, and the "Sheloh" (R. Yeshaya HaLevi Horowitz 1565-1630)
