The Possuk and the Future Feast

הפצת המיינות חוצה | June 27, 2025

The Possuk: The original Possuk quoted at the start of the Maamor from Yoel (2:26) וַאֲכַלְתֶּם אָכוֹל וְשָבוֹעַ וְהִלַלְתֶּם אֶּת שֵׁם ה׳ אֱלֹהֵׁיכֶּם אֲשֶּר עָשָה עִמָכֶּם לְהַפְלִיא וְלֹא יֵׁבֹשוּ עַמִי לְעוֹלָם “And you shall eat, eating and being satiated, and you shall praise the Name of HaShem your G-d, Who has performed wonders with you, and My people shall never be ashamed.”

eating and being satiated” referring to the great feast of the future in which our Sages tell us we will eat of the ‘Livyoson’ and of the ‘Shor HaBor’.

Livyoson

Name of a great fish of the sea that will reappear when Moshiach comes. The Talmud (Bova Basra 75a) states: “Rabba says that Rabbi Yocḥanan says: In the future, the Hakodosh Boruch Hu, will make a feast for the righteous from the flesh of the Livyoson. The Livyoson also appears in Tehilim (104:26) "This Livyoson You created with which to play..." and in Iyov (40:25) “Can you pull the Livyoson with a harpoon or press down his tongue with a rope?”. The name Livyoson comes from the word in Loshon HaKodesh Levoyoh which means accompaniment. Also, fish are from the sea, which represents the hidden spiritual realm.

Shor HaBor

This refers to a great wild bull, also sometimes called Behamos (Iyov 40:15) that will reappear when Moshiach comes. The Midrash Rabba on Parshas Shmini describes a match that will take place in the Messianic era between the Livyoson and the "Shor Habor". The Medrash describes how the bull will attack and kill the Livyoson with its horns, while the Livyoson will attack and kill the bull with its fins.

Almoh De’iskasyoh

A concealed world. On the Possuk in Tehilim (106:48) בָרוּךְ ה׳ אֱלֹקֵׁי יִשְרָאֵׁל מִן הָעוֹלָם וְעַד הָעוֹלָם “Blessed is HaShem, G-d of Yisroel from the world until the world” there is a Zohar (Vol 1, 153:2) that explains: “from the world” refers to the upper concealed world; “until the world” refers to the lower revealed world. The Rebbe explains in a Sicha in 5717 (Parshas Korach) that there are several levels that are explained through several parables that explain the contrast between these two. The difference between the (letters) [concepts] in one’s mind versus the letters of speech. The difference between the sun and the light which comes off it. The difference between the great light which eyes let in versus their description in Rabbinic maxims referring to them as blind. The difference between a protrusive stamp and the concave impression it makes in a wax seal. In different spiritual worlds these are represented in different ways.
