In response to the ongoing war in Israel, U.S. Representative Nick LaLota invited Rabbi Mendel Teldon of Chabad of Commack, New York, to Washington, DC, to present the Jewish perspective on achieving real and lasting peace. Rabbi Teldon delivered a Torah-based perspective on peace, as taught by the Rebbe, to U.S. congressmen and staffers.
A key moment in the discussion was Rabbi Teldon’s emphasis that the Jewish claim to Israel is rooted in G-d’s gift of the land to the Jewish people—a cornerstone of the Rebbe’s approach. Intrigued, Congressman LaLota asked, “Where can Muslims, Christians, and Jews find that premise in a source relied on by them?” Rabbi Teldon pointed to the Bible, “recognized by over four billion people,” which repeatedly affirms Israel as divinely gifted to the Jewish people. The clarity of this answer resonated strongly with policymakers.
While political and historical arguments often fall short, the Rebbe insisted that the Bible serves as the Jewish people’s deed to the land and that this truth is the only effective claim to Jewish ownership. Rabbi Teldon’s materials were developed with JEM’s Enduring Peace and JLI. Their seminar, “How Israel Wins,” has been presented in 250 communities worldwide.
