Besides Emuna in Hashem, We Need to Believe in Our Capabilities of Growth

Bitachon Weekly | June 27, 2025

Makkas Barad turned a lowly Mitzri into a: יָּּרֵא אֶת דְבַר ה' person who fears Hashem. It was like a Har Sinai, with: קוֹלוֹת noises and: אֵ ש fire, and Moshe on top of Har Sinai as an example of what a human can become. We can perhaps suggest that Moshe was an example for Klal Yisroel by Har Sinai, and perhaps for the Mitzri'im also. Indeed, he was raised in Paroh’s palace, and yet he became Moshe.

Davka a human being gave us the Torah, so we can have a model of how great a person can become if he keeps the Torah and does Ratzon Hashem. וַיַּאֲמִּינוּ בַ ה' וּבְמשֶה עַבְדוֹ יד לא They believed in Hashem and in His servant, Moshe. Besides Emuna in Hashem, we need to believe in our capabilities of growth. Perhaps this is why Moshe was raised in a lowly Avoda Zara palace, to prove how even such a situation can produce a Moshe.

The Meforshim say that Amram married: דֹדָּתוֹ his aunt, so that Moshe should have a: קוּפָּ ה שֶ ל שְ רָּ צִּ ים basket of creepy-crawlies (i.e., distasteful baggage) which would eventually be a sin behind him, similar to Dovid who came from Mo'av. This makes it easier for all of us to believe that anyone can become great. So thank Hashem for all the past “garbage” and sins, and super difficulties of your life. They are a sign that Davka you are especially loved by Hashem, and even a drop of improvement makes you super great.

Just as a person needs to be M'chazek in Bitachon, so must he always be M'chazek in holding from himself, and seeing himself as an important and strong Ish. Very often, these two Avodos are what’s most needed, especially in our Dor where there is unending low-self-esteem, and people are fragile from lack of Emuna and Bitachon.
