Reb Levik further explains that Rabbi Abba corresponds to the attribute of Bina and that is why he was so affected by the thought of Rabbi Shimon’s passing, as it says in Pirkei Avos, “If there is no Dass, there is no Bina.” Reb Levik teaches that since Rabbi Abba manifested the attribute of Bina, he was the one who wrote the teachings of Rabbi Shimon in the Zohar. This corresponds to the second half of the saying in Pirkei Avos, “If there is no Bina, there is no Daas!” If Rabbi Abba had not written Rabbi Shimon’s teachings in the Zohar, we would not have them.
The shepherds of Israel do not leave their flock. As the Rebbe Rashab told the Previous Rebbe before passing, “I am going to heaven, but my writings I am leaving here.” He implanted his essence into his teachings. This is like the teaching about the first word of the Ten Commandments, Anochi. It means “I” (Hashem) but it is an acrostic for the words “I write My soul into the Torah.”
Tzadikim are like their Creator. They too, write their souls into their teachings. Therefore, the Rebbe can be “taken” by learning his Torah.
Students who unite with the Rebbe through his Torah nullify the possibility of “Vay to the world when Rabbi Shmon passes away,” thereby ensuring that the “world is not orphaned.”
The principle that through the students who learn his Torah the Rebbe does not leave the world even after his passing, is also expressed in the revealed Torah “Yaacov did not die.”
Even though, to paraphrase Rashi, Yaacov had a funeral, and he was buried,” nevertheless, “As his children are alive, so too, he is alive!”
We are told in the Gemarah that like Yaacov, Moshe also did not die. Moshe and Yaacov are both designated as emes [truth] and truth is eternal from beginning to middle to end.
The Arizal tells us that Rabbi Shimon is like the second Moshe [therefore Rabbi Shimon is also emes and also lives]. And this eternal life of Jewish leaders is accomplished through the students who learn their Torah, as is known, the quality of eternal life found in Yaacov and Moshe is that they embody Torah.
“Shalom to You” indicates the effects from Rabbi’s Shimon’s own teachings [the illuminated glass]. “Shalom to Your house” the revelation of the “colors” the Patriarchs perceived in the dark glass which corresponds to the teachings through his students. And “Peace to all that is Yours” indicates those who connect to the Rebbe after his passing even without learning his Torah, like grass that grows on its own with no planting.
Our connection to this chain of eternal life is through Chabad Chassidus. Many years have elapsed since the passing of the Rebbe and how much more so, the Rashbi. But through learning their Torah, the inner soul of the Torah, as it is explained in Chabad Chassidus, we negate the claim that the “the world will be orphaned when he passes from the world!”
The main thing is that through learning Chabad Chassidus, we bring about the perfection of what Rabbi Abba said of Rabbi Shimon that he is shalom on high and shalom below. And through this the wellspring of supernal wisdom will spread out to the farthest corners of the Universe, and the Master King Moshiach, our teacher will be seen. And the Rashbi and the Alter Rebbe and all the Rebbeim and all the tzadikim together with all the children of Israel will come, souls in bodies, in this physical world and “your eyes will see your Teacher”.
