Tehillim and Shabbos Mevarchim Customs

Chabad.org Luach | June 27, 2025

Early in the morning we gather in shul to recite the entire Tehillim with a minyan. Following Tehillim, a maamar (that can be understood by everyone) should be studied for around an hour, followed by davening.

For more on saying Tehillim on Shabbos Mevarchim, see below, “Hosafos.”

Blessing the New Month

It is proper to know when the molad will be before blessing the new month.

This month, the molad will be on Wednesday morning, at 6:17 a.m. and 17 chalakim.

The chazzan stands, holding a Sefer Torah, and leads the congregation with Mi shebeirach. It is customary for the congregants to stand as well.

Rosh Chodesh Shevat will be on Thursday. We don’t say Av Harachamim.

Farbrengens

Shabbos Mevarchim is a day to farbreng, ideally in shul. For more on Shabbos Mevarchim farbrengens, see below, “Hosafos.”

Shabbos Mevarchim Shevat (which blesses the entire month of Shevat, including—and especially—Yud Shevat) is a day to resolve to increase in our involvement in the Rebbe’s activities, Torah, and avodah, and especially in our bittul and hiskashrus to the nassi hador, through fulfilling his shlichus.
