The tzadeikes, Rebbitzen Ratza z”h, the daughter of the Sanzer Rov zy”a, was married to the Hornosteipler Rebbe zy”a. At the tenayim, the mechutin began to relate the yichus of the chosson, as is customary. He started by saying that he was a descendant of the Rebbe, Rav Zushe. He was about to continue to say that he descended from the great Rebbes of Chernobyl, the Baal Hatanya, the Besht, etc., but the Sanzer Rov stopped him and said, “You don’t have to say anything else. The fact that he descends from Rav Zushe is sufficient.”
The Sanzer Rov then related that at one point, the Magid of Mezheritzh began to fast regularly. His students realized that the fasting was weakening his body, and they tried to figure out how to get him to stop. They decided that Rav Zushe should speak to him and ask him not to fast anymore.
Rav Zushe went to the Magid and told him that fasting was bad for his health. The Magid replied, “You also fast regularly. If you promise not to fast on the upcoming ‘yoma d’pagra’ (vacation day), I also won’t.” And Rav Zushe gave his word.
