Another example that we can see in real life—and from which we must learn in our avodas Hashem—is a “news junkie.” Every moment he has is devoted to consuming news and politics. In the past, people would talk about the weather when they had nothing else to do, and today, when news has become so accessible, people refresh their news consumption obsessively. The moment three stars appear on Motza’ei Shabbos, they’re back at it... like a person obsessed. But the truth is that rather than become discouraged by this, we must channel this habit to better things.

The Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh reveals to us that we can learn from this how to serve Hashem. The idea isn’t to perform a mitzvah here and learn some Torah there—but rather to become obsessed with the Ribbono shel Olam and with devotedly loving Him. Just as our thoughts about worldly pursuits are constant, so too must be our avodas Hashem. We must simply direct ourselves away from mundane thoughts and pursuits and channel our constant thinking towards the Ribbono shel Olam.
