פרש"י בע' לשון. דברי תורה, שמחה וחיזוק.

PARSHAS VOHESCHANAN - SHABBOS NACHAMU 5785

I implored Hashem at that time, saying. (3:23)

Moshe Rabbeinu Davened (prayed), Leimor, that we should be able to Daven.

Seforim HaKedoshim - Sefer Kedushas Levi

Moshe Rabbeinu Davened, that in forthcoming time, in "Ikvisoh DiMishiechoh" (Epoch of Moshiach) Klall Yisroel should be able to Daven to Hashem.

The Chozeh of Lublin ZY"A

I beseeched to Hashem, it shall be in "that time”, during the last moments before departing from this world. I should be able to say Hashem Elokim!

In the name of the Rebbe of Kotzk ZY"A – Der Torah Kvall

I implored Hashem at that time, saying. (3:23)

I [Chozeh of Lublin ZY"A] have heard from Reb Zushoh [of Anapoli ZY"A] (She'ichye), on the saying of Chazal (Sotoh 49:), In Ikvisoh DiMishiechoh Yirei Hashem Yimosu – In the Time of Moshiach those who fear Hashem will be disgusted. Said Reb Zushoh, then it will be necessary to serve Hashem out of love. And the degree of Yiras Cheit, Yimosu – fear of sin will be tainted. And we can say on this Moshe Rabbeinu Davened. Voh'eschanan ell Hashem Boh'eiss Hahi - he davened on that time, referring to the time of Ikvisoh DiMeshichoh, "Leimor", that the Avodah – Service to Hashem, should be out of love to Hashem. Leimor, as it says in the Possuk (Devorim 26:17), Ess Hashem "Hemartoh" Hayom, an expression of bond.

Sefer Zikoron Zos 129

The Chozeh of Lublin ZY"A, says on the first Possuk in this week’s Parsha, "It is known that due to Sinas Chinom (leadless hate), The Beis HaMikdosh was destroyed, and this still dwells amongst us. Lest it seems that Moshiach will come even before there will be complete Sholom (peace), since Eliyohu HaNovi will come to make Sholom. But if there will be peace earlier, Moshiach will come first. And that is I implored Hashem at that time, saying. (3:23) That time is Ikvesoh Dimeshichoh, “Leimor”, an expression of bond, that there be love, brotherhood, and companionship between us."

Sefer Zos Zikoron 170 and Sefer Divrei Emes 126

Greatness and Goodness

Hashem - Elokim, you have begun to show your servant your greatness, and your mighty hand; for what power is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to your works, and according to Your mighty acts. {3:24}

“Your greatness - This refers to the measure of your goodness” - Rashi ~ Greatness is measured only according to the benefit it brings to the world. It is possible for one to be a great genius and a well-known leader, but if there is no character trait of goodness and will to do good nestled within him, the title of “great” does not fit him.

Sefer Menachem Tzion

The Chidushei HaRim ZY"A, said in the name of the Rebbe of Lublin ZY"A – Two Chasidim in a city is more than enough. One Chosid is less than needed. Rather, one and a half, and each one should consider himself the half, and be Buttel (nulled) to his fellow friend.

Sefer Siach Sarfei Kodesh

Guarding the Soul

Only take heed to yourself, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; but teach them to your sons, and to your grandsons ;4:9}

The word רק is a limiting expression. Here it indicates: guard yourself, conserve the health of your body properly, because a person is obligated to preserve his health (Bovoh Kamoh 4). However, the health of your soul must be guarded greatly, because the dangers that ambush the soul, lest it be blemished in the world of falsehood, are very great, and one needs extra vigilance to avoid these dangers.

Reb Menachem Mendel of Kotzk

Transmitting Torah with Reverence

Only take heed to yourself, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; but teach them to your sons, and to your grandsons. {4:9}

The Talmud (Brochos 22) derives from the proximity of the verses: “And you shall make them known to your children and grandchildren the day you stood before Hashem your G-D at Chorev,” that just as at the latter Har Sinai The Torah was given with fear, reverence, trembling, and sweating, likewise it is about the former - making the Torah known to our children - that it must be taught with fear, reverence, trembling, and sweating. This teaches us that it is impossible to transmit The Torah to future generations in a mechanical way, as is done with secular knowledge and wisdom. Instead, Torah can only be transmitted with emotional feeling and fervor, fear, and reverence.

Sefer Menachem Tzion

Seeking Hashem with All Your Heart

But if from there you shall seek the Lord your G-D, you shall find him, if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.{4:29}

From there, you will be able to search for Hashem, your G-D from the depths of your heart and find Him, if only you will seek Him diligently.

Reb Yaakov Yitzchok of Pshischoh

Internalizing Knowledge of Hashem

Know therefore this day, and consider it in your heart, that Hashem He is The G-D in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath; there is no other.{4:39}

It is not sufficient merely to “know” it; this sublime knowledge must be taken into your heart, so that your will and virtues both function in conformity with what you know. This task constitutes the entire “devotion” incumbent upon a Jew. The space that separates “knowing” from “laying it to your heart” is as great as that which stands between knowledge and ignorance.

Reb Yisroel Salanter

Means “there is none other” or “there is nothing else.” “The Hashem is G-D in heaven above and on the earth below” can be explained to mean: there is nothing else we need to know, for this one fact is the foundation and root of all knowledge in the world.

Mayonei Shel Torah

The Barrier of Selfishness

The "onochius", the "ich" of a person, his selfishness, that is the separation which stands between Hashem and you. For as long as a person is governed by his "ich" [his selfness, motives, & agendas], he cannot attain spirituality.

Reb Moshe of Kobrin ZY"A – Der Torah Kvall

Yiroh and Deveikus at Home

Hashem said, here at Har Sinai, I saw your Yiroh and Deveikus" [fear and connectedness]. Let me now only see how it will look like in your home...

The Rebbe of Kotzk – Der Torah Kvall

Comfort in Being Hashem's Nation

Comfort yourselves, simply with the fact that - Ami - you are My nation. Such should be by you the greatest comfort.

The Binei Yissoschor ZY"A - Der Torah Kvall

Stories of Chassidic Masters

After the Petiroh of the Beis Aharon of Karlin ZY"A, His son Reb Osher of Stolin travelled for the first Yohrtzeit to Mohlinov , to the Tzion. Along came a large crowd, and it broke out a plague their R"L. All of the Chasidim ran to the Rebbe in tumult with great fear. Reb Osher ZY"A told them; "Do not fear Kinderlach, you are not found on the list."

Kovetz Gilyonos Mateh Aharon

The Yungeh Rebbe – Reb Osher of Stolin [Son of the Beis Aharon] ZY"A, when he wore a vest, he wanted that the material in the back also be of fabric. Since if only the front is of real material (as usual), that is Sheker – falsehood.

Kovetz Gilyonos Mateh Aharon

Rav Zalmen Brizel ZT”L would pose the following question. Why would one serve Hashem with sadness when he could serve Hashem with Happiness? He would say it is a question that does not have an answer.

Sefer “Reb Zalmen”

In the name of Reb Bunim of Parshischa ZY"A, Tehillim 34, Sur Meira Vi’asei tov – Go away from bad and do good, meaning, Sur Meirah – Go away from bad, it should not come to your mind the thought that you did bad until now. Only, Asei Tov – do good, and with doing good it will thereby nullify the bad totally, Vihovein, [and understand].

Sefer Siach Sarfei Kodesh

The Chidushei Harim ZY”A said on the topic of Arichas HaGolus [length of the exile] so much. It can possibly be said, as it is so dear and important the learning of Torah in current times, which is done even with sacrifice of the difficulty of Parnossoh (livelihood) which distracts a person.

Sefer Siach Sarfei Kodesh

Yohrtzeit of Reb Osher of Stolin

On the 15th of Av is the Yohrtzeit of Reb Osher of Stolin (Der Yonge Rebbe) ZY"A, son of the Beis Aharon ZY"A. On the first and only Yohrtzeit of his father the Beis Aharon, the Yungeh Rebbe traveled to the Tzion. One Thousand wagons, each with five Chasidim in them, crossed the border into Vohlin to where the Beis Aharon was buried. First the Rebbe went into the Ohel of his Father. He then came out and said, "For the next quarter hour [Mehn ken oispoilin altz - afilu ashirus] everyone can ask all their needs even wealth (which was not recommended by most Karliner Rebbes). There was not time to write Kvitlach, and the tzibbur lined up and where Mazkir their needs, each for their needs – Bonei, Chayei, Mezonei, Shiduchim, & Ashirus. And so it was, all were answered, even Ashirus (wealth). [Most of those who got Ashirus did not stay in Karlin, but went to other Chasidic courts where wealth was a commodity].

As heard from Reb Yudel Ackerman Z"L

After Tisha B'Av: Rebuilding the Beis HaMikdosh

As we are now in the days after Tisha B'Av, the day of the destruction of The Beis HaMikdosh in Yerusholayim, we must contemplate how we can bring about its rebuilding. To the best of our ability with our Mitzvos and Ma'asim Tovim – our good deeds. Seforim HaKedoshim including the Tiferes Shlomo ZY”A, Imrei Noam ZY”A and many more Tzadikim ZY”A expound on this week’s Kriyas HaTorah (Torah reading) which in it we read the Aseres HaDibros. This is to resemble that after the destruction of the Beis HaMikdosh, which took place on Tisha B’Av, there is and will be in the future with the rebuilding of the Beis HaMikdosh speedily in our days.

The Tiferes Shlomo specifically explains that this is to teach us that every day is a new one in Torah, Tefilloh and Avodas Hashem. We make a Brochoh (blessing) on the Torah every morning as is we are acquiring today a portion anew, more than yesterday.

The Chidushei Harim ZY”A dwells on an interesting topic in which he states, the world does the opposite in two topics, from what would be appropriate. Parnossoh – livelihood, is in the hands of Hashem, nevertheless everyone pursues and runs and thinks of ideas how to “make money” in every way possible. They do not rely on Hashem, rather they put effort into business day and night with all their strength. Contrary, Avodas Hashem – Serving Hashem, is in the hands of the people, as it says in next week’s Parsha (Eikev), “Moh Hashem Elokechoh shoel mei’imoch ki im li’yiroh – And now Klall Yisroel, what does Hashem The A-lmighty ask from you just to fear him [Devorim 10:12].” And the fact that “Hakol Bidey Shomayim chutz MiYiras Shomayim – Everything comes from Heaven besides for Yiras Shomayim – Fear of Heven” [Gemoroh Brochos 33:2]. That is just mentioned (as lip service) “Visein Bilibeinu Binoh – Put in our hearts understanding” but is not worked on as it should be.

It says in Chazal Mishenichnas Av Mimatin BiSimchoh, when Av comes in, we minimize in happiness. But Tzadikim have said that Mishyeitzey Av, when Av leaves, we increase in Simcha. This year as this Shabbos is Tu B'Av - the fifteenth of Av, which the Gemoroh says was a great Yom Tov.

The Chidushei Harim ZY"A, says that the fifteenth of Av is a preparation for Rosh Hashonoh and the beginning of Yimei HoRachamim VihaSlichos. In Shulchon Oruch it is quoted that one who writes a letter from the fifteenth of Av, he should already wish a Ksiva VaChasimoh Tovoh.

The Gemoroh and up to recent Seforim say, one who prepares early for the Yimei HoRachamim of Chodesh Ellul and Tishrei will attain its great and opportune time.
