Keys to All Locks

Living Jewish | December 10, 2025

The Baal Shem Tov used to say: Saying a heartfelt chapter of Tehillim, making an effort to help another Jew—materially or spiritually—and loving one’s fellow Jew—these are the keys to all the locks of the chambers of mercy, healing, salvation, and the gates of livelihood.

(the Rebbe Rayatz)

True Simplicity

The true simplicity with which a simple Jewish man or woman recites Tehillim represents the highest level of attachment to G-d.

(the Baal Shem Tov)

Annulment of Decrees

The greatness of reciting Tehillim lies in its power to annul heavenly judgments, even after decrees have already been sealed.

(the Rebbe)

Be Diligent

One must be very diligent in reciting Tehillim every day, and in saying the entire Tehillim on Shabbat Mevarchim (the Sabbath before the new month). This affects not only oneself, but also one’s children and grandchildren.

(Hayom Yom)

Breaking Harsh Judgments

“Who can tell the mighty acts of the Lord, proclaim all His praise?” (Tehillim 106:2). “Tell” (yemallel) also means “break.” “Who can break the mighty acts of the Lord”—what can break and nullify the harsh judgments? “Proclaim all His praise”—the recitation of the entire book of Tehillim.
