Rabbi Eliyahu Yonah Benyaminson
Since this year Tishah B’Av was right after Shabbos, we ate a festive third Shabbos meal before the fast. As the Shulchan Aruch says, at this meal we “eat meat and drink wine and bring up on the table even like the feast of Solomon at the time of his reign.” The Rebbe King Moshiach Shlita says to make a Siyum celebration for completing a Torah tractate on that Shabbos as well, and to combine it with Tzedakah in a way that is permitted on Shabbos – sharing food and drink.
I made a Siyum on a tractate (before midday; after midday only certain tractates are permitted to be studied and this was a different one). I was wondering how to do the Tzedakah part. Later, when we were eating our “King Solomon’s feast”, we got a knock on the door. Someone was looking to have a Kosher meal and this was the third place he had tried. We were delighted to have the opportunity to share our food with him, so we could fulfill the Mitzvah of Tzedakah!
