Is a child allowed to disagree with a parent? Yes - but only respectfully...

Teach children how to disagree with others respectfully by showing them how to disagree with parents and teachers. It’s not okay for them to say things like “That’s not right!” or “I’m not doing that!” or “That’s crazy!” Such responses will always tend to provoke negativity, causing harm in the long run. Moreover, the more children “practice” such disrespectful speech, the more they wire that pattern into their brains. Instead, teach kids that they can ASK adults, (thereby taking a position of more appropriate and endearing humility). “Is it possible that that isn’t the right way?” “Could I please not do that right now?” “Could you explain the reason to me because I don’t understand?” When trained to speak this way to grownups, children will end up speaking respectfully to EVERYONE they encounter.
