The Shabbos Deal

טיב הקהילה English | December 10, 2025

Every week on Tuesday I do the shopping in honor of Shabbos Kodesh. The amount to be paid is fixed and known in advance. And during certain times when there is no money in my pocket, each time I experience a different miracle and wonder of Divine Providence [hashgacha pratis]. I thought to share it with the public in order to thank Hashem among as many people as possible...

Monday, 8:00 PM. I am making plans for tomorrow, and I have no idea from where the salvation will come. Like every person in a time of distress, I pray from the depth of my heart and ask: "Ribono shel Olam, I am sitting here without a single coin in my pocket, and the weekly shopping in honor of Shabbos costs about fifteen hundred shekels, and I do not have even a single coin in my pocket!!! Please take care of the money for me as You always do every single Shabbos."

Not a moment passes, and the phone rings. On the other end of the line is a man [yid] asking to buy a car cheaply and with a limited budget. I told him that if I found something, I would let him know. In the past, I used to deal in second-hand cars, but it had already been quite some time since I was involved in that field—where would I even find a car for him?

Suddenly, I remembered that a week ago a friend had told me he wanted to sell his car, and it might be exactly what this fellow was looking to buy now.

I tried my luck, and the deal was closed that very night to the satisfaction of both parties. When the buyer asked me how much I deserved as a broker’s fee, I said a thousand shekels. Even though I knew that the next day I needed two thousand, I did not feel comfortable asking for more than that, especially since the deal was simple and easy...

But HaKadosh Baruch Hu thought otherwise. That friend said: "What do you mean, a thousand shekels?! You worked on this at odd hours and arranged for me a car that was better than expected—I insist on giving you two thousand shekels, not one shekel less!!!" And so, by two o'clock in the morning, I already had the money for Shabbos—in abundance.

I learned another lesson: if it was decreed for you to earn a certain amount from a certain person, then even if you do not ask, Hashem will place it in the other’s heart to give it to you. And if it is not destined for you to receive from a certain source, then even if you argue with the person, you will not get the money from him!!!

With thanks and gratitude for all the kindnesses!!!
