Rabbi Asher Kowalsky, shlit"a
What did it turn out in the ICU? '
He was already transferred to the intensive care unit, and the family members were concerned about the Rebbe, the author of the Pnei Menachem of Gur z"a, who had come to visit their sick father. "Although he was in the internal medicine, his illness was severe, and last night he was transferred to the intensive care unit, with the meaning clear..."The Rebbe heard the concern in their voices, and his heart – the heart of Israel – skipped a beat. A Jew suffers terribly from a serious illness, the family members revolve around him in pain and worry, indeed, the troubles of the people of Israel are many...When his luminous face was seen at the gates of the department, the head of the department, a well-known professor there, had already arrived at the scene, who had received an urgent call that a well-known tzaddik was coming to visit a certain patient. The Rebbe spoke to him about the matter, heard a comprehensive medical examination, at the end of which the professor said quite emphatically: 'Our assessment leaves him – at best – a month to live...'The Rebbe listened to his words carefully, only to the conclusion of the matter he had a brief comment: 'Without offending the doctor's honor, I actually think that perhaps the decree can be revoked...' The Rebbe said briefly and concluded the discussion.
The family listened to the doctor's words with concern; this is not the first time they have heard this assessment... On the other hand, in this case, the Rebbe gave a lead, leaving an opening of hope at the end of the tunnel... What will his words mean? How can the decree be annulled? But when the Rebbe went to visit the patient's room, the patient immediately burst into bitter tears. He told the Rebbe the full extent of his medical condition, his great anguish and growing pain, and also the fact that he knew the doctor's assessment, no matter how harsh and cruel it was... "Rabbi," cried the sick man, sobbing bitterly, "the righteous have the power to decree, the righteous decree and the Holy One, blessed be He, fulfills them. Please, please decree that the Rebbe cancel the doctors' words, and return me to a normal and healthy life! "The Rebbe looked at the sobbing patient in front of him, and his eyes filled with pity. A suffering Jew, medically doomed, had already been decreed, and he clung to hope like a drowning person clinging to straw. "There are times," said the Rebbe, after a long thought, "that even the righteous do not have the strength to change the decree. Where there is disagreement, the righteous do not have the power to decree a single thing..."The Rebbe raised his voice a little and added: "If there is a disagreement, if there is a lack of unity, there is no force that can cancel the decree. We must invest efforts to prevent discord and strengthen unity. Look around and see if there is something that is damaged in unity, conflict or quarrel, and so on. If you listen to my advice, invest your energies in the issue of unity and love of friends, and with God's help, you will see salvation and complete refuah," said the Rebbe. And concluded the visit...
The family members were surprised at how much the Rebbe had breadth into the burning problem. For several years now, a financial dispute has clouded the normal relations in the family, a brother does not talk to his brother, and even the cousins do not smile at each other. A financial dispute has caused a great conflagration, and the family is divided and conflicted...Now the instruction is clear, and so is the way out of the medical entanglement. If the dispute arises on a financial basis – then this is exactly the moment to understand that the father's life is seven times more important than any fortune in the world...That same evening, one of the brothers gathered the entire family. They all gave up, some made far-reaching concessions, but in the end they all came out happy and happy, shaking hands and united as before...A few days later, an improvement began to appear. The illness gradually subsided, and the father of the family began to regain his strength...When he was discharged from the hospital walking on both legs, a festive thanksgiving feast was held in the presence of all the members of the united and happy family, who together commemorated the miraculous miracle of saving the family member, who had returned from intensive care to a normal life, who astounded the doctors with such a miraculous miracle of rescue...
