Practical Judaism Tzedakah

Living Moshiach | June 27, 2025
  • In connection to Parshas Shekalim, we should add in giving Tzedakah.
  • There are different levels of Tzedakah: a tenth of one’s income, a fifth, and giving all that one has to save one’s life or soul.
  • On Shabbos we can give food or drink etc.
  • The giving of a half-Shekel was for the communal sacrifices. A sacrifice symbolizes coming close to G-d by giving of oneself, giving one’s whole being to G-d.
  • Put all ten powers of your soul into giving – in addition to actually doing it, also think and speak about it.
  • Through this we hasten the Redemption, that it will come immediately and then G-d will do His “Tzedakah” of gathering all the Jewish People together back to the Holy Land!

(See talk of the Lubavitcher Rebbe King Moshiach Shlita, Vayakhel 5752 (1992))
