Chida explains, V’oz melech, “the might of a/the king,” is mishhpat ohaiv, He loves justice. True might is to be found in one to whom justice and truth are paramount- and non-negotiable. Midrash Socher Tov explains that, when one is powerful, he might regard himself as being above the law- both personally and with regard to the manner in which he adjudicates the law. Hashem, however, loves justice. Thus, He employs His oz, might, to adjudicate and enforce the letter of the law. This is comforting even when we are on the “wrong” end of judgment. We know that whatever the punishment is-it is not by a whim, but follows mishpat tzedek, true righteous justice. We are all treated the same; all Jews are judged by the same barometer of justice. Furthermore, Hashem has created each of us b’Tzelem Elokim, in the image of G-d. We are by nature justice-oriented. When we act unjustly, it is out of character and incongruent with our Tzelem Elokim.
