What’s With Zevulun in the Next World

Limuday Moshe | December 10, 2025

The Chofetz Chaim writes in Shemiras HaLashon (Sha’ar HaTorah end of Perek 6): “It can be found in Seforim HaKadoshim [Holy Books] that if one supports Torah, even if he is unlearned in this world, in the next world he will merit to know Torah. The above is obvious, since he has a portion in the Torah of Yissachar and the real enjoyment in Gan Eden comes from the ruchniyus of the Torah, it must be that he will be able to understand Torah in the Next World”.

The truth is, the Chida in Rosh Dovid (Kedoshim pg. 344) already brings such a chiddush from his father. He is coming to explain the Medrash (Vayikra Rabbah 25:2) which says: “In the future Hashem is going to make special canopies for those who do mitzvos and place them next to the canopies of those who learn Torah”. The question is, surely it is embarrassing for those who only did mitzvos and never learnt Torah to be placed next to those who have learnt Torah? The Chida quoting his father writes: “Rather, since they supported talmiday chachomim and they were only able to learn because of them, the talmiday chachomim will teach them all the Torah they know, and they will understand Torah like one who is a talmid chocham and will be able to handle back and forth in Torah. This is why they merit to have their canopies next to those who learn Torah, it is so that they can also learn and understand Torah”.

We can also add something the Chofetz Chaim writes in his introduction to the version of the Toras Kohanim that he helped bring out. He writes, in regards to a certain rich man who gave lots of money to help support Torah and to help set up a chaburah of people who learn Torah, that: וזכה ששפתותיו דובבות בקבר שמעמלו נזונין עשרה ת "ח מופלגים – “He merits that his lips move in the grave, as through his hard work he managed to support ten phenomenal talmiday chachomim”. We see that if one supports Torah, even if he never came up with any of his own chiddushim, he still merits that it’s considered as he is still teaching Torah even after he dies.
