Can cats have anxiety?

Cats are well known as pets, but are also interesting in their own right. Their whiskers are highly sensitive and help cats gauge their surroundings, especially in low light. They can detect changes in air currents, aiding in navigation and hunting. Cats have an acute ability to sense change in atmospheric pressure, which can signal approaching storms. They might notice a drop in pressure or smell rain before humans do. It’s interesting to note that, like humans, cats experience REM sleep, which means they have dreams. However, not all cats are perfectly content; about one in ten pet cats experience separation anxiety, leading them to make excessive noise or even destroy things when their owners are away.
