Yosef was a Yasom, and Chazal call him: קָ טָ ן שֶׁ בִּ שְׁ בָטִּ ים the smallest of the Shevotim. He was alone, and if others don’t give you Chizuk, then you give yourself! So he has dreams putting himself way on top. Perhaps this is the reason why he was M'karev: בְׁ נֵ י הַ שְׁ פָ חוֹת the sons of the maidservants (i.e., Bilhah and Zilpah); he understood the underdog. Or perhaps because those who miss the warmth and love that they need feel fulfilled when they are nice to others.
We need to do the same thing. Always build yourself up. Some say that you should write a book with all your Maalos, and a second book with your main Ma'ala that others don’t have. A broken person (which we all are) has a Chiyuv to always be M'chabed himself, and appreciate all the Maalos (and even the issues) that Hashem gave him. If you think of yourself as an Adam Gadol, you’ll Shteig much more.
Although a Yasom and Almana are looked down upon as “nebachs”, yet the Rambam says to Davka be M'chabed them (perhaps more than being M'chabed others). So must you be M'chabed yourself, even though you think you are a nebach. Just like the Rambam says to give Rachamim Gedolim (lots of Rachamim) to Yasom and Almana, so you have Rachmanus on yourself. And generally, be Dan yourself L'kaf Zechus.
