The Name of Hashem Was Constantly on His Lips

The Name of Hashem Was Constantly on His Lips:

The Medrash Tanchuma states: “Potiphar was a rasha. How could he see that Hashem was with Yosef? Rather, this means that the name of Hashem was constantly on Yosef’s lips. He would come in to serve him and whisper, ‘Ribono Shel Olam. I place my trust in You. You are my supporter. Grant me grace, kindness and compassion in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who see me and in the eyes of my master Potiphar.” Potiphar said to him, ‘What are you whispering? Are you casting spells on me?’ He answered, “No. I am praying to find favor in your eyes.’ That is how he saw that Hashem’s name was with him.”

Sefer Shomer Emunim (Maamar Hashgacha Pratis, Perek 23) writes that since Yosef did this, Hashem granted him success in whatever he did. Since he asked Hashem for help in all that he did and he thanked Him for everything, Hashem granted him success in all that he did.

He continues to say that this idea applies to every individual. When one constantly speaks about Hashem and thanks Him, he will succeed in whatever he does. When one connects himself to Hashem in this way, he will experience a higher level of hashgacha pratis. Hashem will pay him back middah k’neged middah. Since he makes Hashem a constant presence in his life, Hashem will constantly be there for him.

He adds that such a person can even experience more Divine Providence than a tzadik. The pasuk compares Hashem to a shadow (Tehillim 121:5). Just like a shadow always does whatever the person casting the shadow does, Hashem always acts towards a person in the way that person acts towards Him. If a person always remembers Hashem, Hashem will always remember him.

This is also seen from the pasuk in Tehillim (33:18) that states: “Hashem’s eye is on those who fear Him and hope for His kindness.” It does not say that He is always watching tzadikim. Rather, it says that He always watches those who place their hope in Him. The pasuk also says (Tehillim 14:2) that Hashem looks down to see who is searching for Him. This refers to those who search for His presence in whatever they do.

In this vein, the pasuk says (Devarim 31:14) that one experiences all kinds of suffering when Hashem is not with them. If one does not recognize His presence, he places himself in danger of experiencing pain and suffering.
