The Worst Evil Can Eventually Turn into A Bracha

Bitachon Weekly | June 27, 2025

Look how these two Shevotim appear like unsuccessful “losers”, and exactly the opposite takes place. From Yehuda’s: דֶרֵיַּו “going down” becomes Malchus Bais Dovid; and from Yosef’s going “down” to Mitzrayim, he becomes Melech and saves the world from starvation. During the Nazi Holocaust, the Polish Goyim were just as dangerous and cruel as the Nazis when it came to Jews, Rachmana Litzlan.

True Story

Mr. Chiger and a group of 13 Jews from Lvov decided to go down to the sewer system to save themselves. A Polish goy named Sucha suddenly appeared. He told them not to be afraid, and that he would help them. He brought them tons of bread, and full sacks of potatoes. He was very knowledgeable and street-wise, and as soon as he found out that Germans were planning to throw grenades through the manholes of the sewer, he notified them.

He brought them to a safer spot underground, and he would spend two hours at a time talking to them and calming them, since the Russians were starting to destroy the Germans. He brought candles and a carbide lamp (for fuel) every Friday for Shabbos observance. He was always smiling, and he was a beacon of light in their dreary lives.

One day, he told them his story. His parents were very poor and low class. They threw him out of the house when he was all of 10 years old. The only way he could survive was by stealing, and with time he became a serious professional criminal (and he was responsible for the well-known jewelry store robbery... which happened to be Mrs. Chiger’s family!!) *****

“Do you know why I’m going all out to help you? Because I feel so guilty about my past, and I feel that just as I snatched you away from death, so are angels snatching away my many sins!” He spent a year with them until the war was over. We see how the worst evil can eventually turn into a Bracha.
