A Person Has to Be a Chevra’man in Fighting His Yetzer Hara

Similarly, Dovid, the Admoni was a perfect Melech, who would use his “red” Admoni nature to kill Pelishtim. (Chazal). A Yid always channels his shortcomings and his unfortunate baggage for good purposes. Look how Yaakov (who is known for Emes) and his whole family is loaded with trickery and stealing: וַיַעְׁ קְׁ בֵ נִ י זֶה פַ עֲ מַ יִם כז לו he fools Eisav twice! First, with the Bechora.

The second time, he does a “Velt’s (world class) scandal”, being an imposter and stealing the Brachos. He sounds just like Lavan (L'havdil) switching Leah instead of Rochel! And Leah even told Yaakov that she learned from him how to trick people! (Medrash). And when Yaakov leaves Lavan, it was: בְׁ דֶ רֶ ךְ גְ נֵיבָ ה (he secretly “stole” away without telling him), and Rochel steals her father's: תְׁ רָ פִ ים idols. Of course, we have no understanding of these stories. However, we can surely take a message, that a person has to be a Chevra’man in fighting his Yetzer Hara!

I’m familiar with Slabodka and Novardok Yeshivos, and I know of “undercover” stories where they had to use certain tactics in fighting the Haskalah. Everybody knows that in Slabodka they stole the letters that R' Ahron Kotler’s sister was sending him (she was trying to persuade him to pursue mathematics and science, etc.), and if not for that, we would have lost our Rash’kebe’hag, Rachmana Litzlan!
