Me'oros Hatzaddikim | December 31, 2025

Ravina II

Ravina II bar Shmuel completed the codification of the Talmud Bavli begun earlier by Rav Ashi. His petira marked the end of the period of the Amoro’im.

Rav Shlomo HaLevi Landau

Rav Shlomo was the son of Rav Moshe, Av Bais Din of Lvov, and a contemporary of the talmidim of the Chozeh of Lublin. His son was Rav Nachum and his son-in-law was Rav Yaakov Drimer, the father of Rav Shlomo Drimer, Av Bais Din of Skola.

Rav Shlomo Luria (Ashkenazi) - Maharshal (5334 / 1573 - 450th Yahrzeit)

Rabbi Shlomo Luria, the "Maharshal," was one of the leading Torah scholars of the sixteenth century. His writings are studied and venerated still today. He served as Rabbi and head of the Rabbinical court in Lublin, one of the most important centers of Jewish life at that time. He was a relative of Rabbi Yitzchak Luria, apparently his great uncle.

Rav Yitzchok Chizkiya Lampronti (5517 / 1756 - 267th Yahrzeit)

Rav Yitzchok Lampronti was the mechaber of Pachad Yitzchok, the first major Talmudic encyclopedia ever assembled. He was also Moreh Tzedek in Ferrara, Italy, and the teacher of the Ramchal.

Rav Avrohom Dov Auerbach - Bas Ayin (5601 / 1840 - 183rd Yahrzeit)

Rav Avrohom Dov Auerbach of Avritch and Tzefas was a talmid of Rav Levi Yitzchok of Berditchev and the first two Rebbes of Chernobyl. He was the Rebbe of Avritch from 1785.

Rav Naftali HaKohen Schwartz of Mad (5667 / 1906 - 117th Yahrzeit)

(Some say the Yahrzeit is in the year 5657 / 1896 - 127th Yahrzeit)

Rav Naftali Hakohen Schwartz, born on the 12th of Elul 5606 (1846), was the son of Rav Avraham Yehudah Hakohen Schwartz of Mad, the author of Kol Aryeh. In 5644, the Kol Arye was niftar and he asked in his last will and testament that his son Rav Naftoli be appointed as his successor in Mad – and so it was.

Rav Yehoshua Moshe Aharonson (5754 / 1993 - 30th Yahrzeit)

Rav Yehoshua Moshe Aharonson of Petach Tikva was born in Warsaw and was named Rav of Sanok in 1937. In the winter of early 1940, he was appointed to the Bais Din of Warsaw. He subsequently moved to Eretz Yisrael, where he served as a Rav in Petach Tikva and Emmanuel. His writings were collected in the book Alei Meroros.
