There’s a simple tablecloth trick that truly works. After a meal, when the dishes are cleared and crumbs are scattered everywhere, you place a dessert plate in the center of the tablecloth. Then two people lift the sides and gently bounce the cloth, almost like a trampoline. Within moments, all the crumbs gather neatly onto the plate in the middle.
I’m not a mystic, and I’m certainly not an alarmist. But I’m also not blind. It feels as though Hakadosh Baruch Hu is performing a similar miracle before our very eyes—gathering the Jewish people from every corner of the earth toward one center point.
Forgive the comparison that involves crumbs, because the Jewish people are anything but crumbs. We are diamonds. Scattered diamonds. And if Hashem can gather crumbs with such ease, how much more so His precious, luminous nation. What we are witnessing is not chaos.. It is the diamonds of Am Yisrael being drawn back toward the place where they truly belong.
