5735-1974, the chasidim in 770 were surprised that the Rebbe didn’t hold a farbrengen on Shabbat afternoon, even though it was the yahrzeit of the Mitteler Rebbe. Later on, word got out that a boy who was struggling socially was celebrating his bar mitzvah in a small synagogue in Crown Heights that day, and the Rebbe didn’t want any of the guests to leave early in order to attend the farbrengen.
