Tzadikim Are Unafraid of All Kinds of Horrific Situations; They Only Care About Passing the Tests Hashem Gives Them

Bitachon Weekly | June 27, 2025

By Ovdei Avoda Zara (idol-worshipers) it says: וְהָיָה כִי יִרְ עַב וְהִתְקַצַף וְקִלֵּל בְּמַלְכוֹ וּבֵּאלהָיו (Yeshaya 8:21) when they don’t get what they want, they get angry at their gods. So Yaakov gives Paroh a Bracha, and about his own life he says: מְעַט וְרָעִים (47:9) it was difficult and short lived; i.e., you Paroh need that everything goes well. By me, it’s fine to have a lifetime of disappointments, because all we care about is to pass the tests that Hashem gives us, not our “making it” vs. “not making it”. ה' רֹעִי לֹא אֶחְסָר (Tehillim 23:1) Hashem is my Shepard (so) I will never lack!

At the end of his life, Nachum Ish Gam Zu asked for Yissurim. The Gemara says: וְלֹא נִתְקָרְ רָה דַעְתוֹ (Taanis 21a) “he was not satisfied” until the Yissurim were extremely bad. Nachum was the author of Gam Zu L'tovah. Rabbi Akiva was the author of: כָל מַאי דְעָבֵּיד רַחְמָנָא לְטַב עָבֵּיד Whatever Hashem does, is surely best, and he was always asking to be M'kayem: בְּכָל נַפְשְ ךָ , וַאֲפִלוּ הוּא נוֹטֵּל אֶת נַפְשְ ךָ to love Hashem with all your soul, even if He shall take your soul; and he was tortured to death. Notice how these giants led beautiful positive Derech HaBitachon lives, but were totally unafraid of all kinds of horrific situations.
