When a person grasps an intellectual concept, an incredible union is formed between the person and the intellectual concept to the extent that the concept is no longer a foreign entity separated from the person’s intellect, but the intellect and the intellectual concept have been transformed into one entity.
Similarly, when one studies Torah, which is the Divine will and intellect of HaKodosh Boruch Hu, the person’s intellect “embraces” and encompasses the Divine Will and wisdom to the extent that the person’s intellect and HaShem’s wisdom and Divine will are transformed into one being and thus they form a unique deep Divine connection and union when he “embraces” the King of kings Himself, since “He and His wisdom are one.” Just as it is that in order to study Torah and form this connection a person needs to exist and needs to have some intellect.
Purification and Refinement
Purification: is a greater level of refinement.
Matter of the world: As it is explained in Chassidus that this physical world and the creations that are in it are created in a way that the good and the bad are mixed in together and it is a person’s job to refine and separate the good from the bad. In this matter which is called Avodas HaBirurim there are several levels and stages. The first stage is: refining the good from the bad (with food for example when the food is eaten purely for the sake of heaven so as to serve HaShem with the strength gained from that food). The next stage is that the physical object is already not crass, but it is refined and pure. And the highest level he elevates to holiness (for even after the bad has been refined and removed from the good it is still not entirely like the good of holiness and that only happens at the higher stage. When the good that was mixed with the bad ascends above).
