The Dawn of Change

Project Likkutei Sichos | December 10, 2025

From a talk delivered on Shabbos Parshas Vayeilech 5726/1966

Change is an inherent part of life. The Torah portion of Vayeilech, which describes Moshe Rabbeinu’s final day and his passing of leadership to Yehoshua, is a paradigm of transition and transformation. The Jewish people stood at the threshold of a new era, about to enter Eretz Yisrael under new leadership. This moment was not only a historical shift but also a spiritual one, as the nation prepared to fulfill its mission in a new land.

Transitions can be daunting. The uncertainty of the future, the loss of the familiar, and the challenge of new responsibilities can create anxiety. Yet, the Torah teaches us that change is not to be feared. Rather, it is an opportunity for growth and renewal. Moshe’s encouragement to Yehoshua and to the people—"Chazak ve’ematz, be strong and courageous"—serves as a timeless message for all generations facing change.

Every individual experiences moments of transition—whether in personal life, career, or spiritual journey. The lesson of Vayeilech is to embrace these moments with faith and determination. Just as the Jewish people were guided by Moshe’s wisdom and Yehoshua’s leadership, so too are we guided by the teachings of our Torah and the strength of our community.

May we all merit to approach the dawn of change with confidence, drawing inspiration from our heritage and looking forward to the future with hope and courage.
